Swamp Tupelo, Nyssa biflora

: Swamp Tupelo, Nyssa biflora, has smooth oval leaves with a decidedly tender texture which helps distinguish them from oak leaves. New leaf sprouts appear on pinkish-red stems in young trees. Also known as swamp black-gum, tupelo is very much a wetland species found in coastal regions from Delaware to south Florida and west to east Texas.
